Lift up Your Voice, and Hear the Call to Care for Creation
Climate change and environmental injustice
has affected Louisiana particularly hard. Our state has been hit by over 15 hurricanes and tropical storms in the last decade, alone*. These events claim and destroy lives, often hitting vulnerable communities the hardest.
On top of higher rates of severe weather and rising temperatures, Louisiana is highly exposed to pollution from petrochemical companies operating along the gulf and the Mississippi river — a region that has come to be known as "Cancer Alley." One particular area faces a risk of developing air-pollution-related cancer that is notably seven times higher than the national average.**
Green The Church's Climate Revivals bring our attention to these and other problems caused by climate change and environmental injustice affecting both our land and air, trends which are ongoing and intensifying. Our goal is to not just recognize past suffering but prevent it in the future.
Hear from our speakers to learn about people doing the work, making a difference throughout the community, and how we can model this work for others to begin healing our neighborhoods and our planet.
