Climate Justice and Faith Certifications Can Help You Restore Communities and Ecosystems at the Same Time
Oct 05, 2026As we progress in our careers, certification programs are a critical aspect of continuing our education and building our credentials. More importantly, certifications offer us the chance to gain knowledge and perspective, often when we otherwise wouldn't have the time or space to do so.
The Center for Climate Justice and Faith (of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary) recently reached out to us to let us know about such an opportunity. Currently, the Center offers three different Certificates in Climate Justice and Faith, enabling attendees to advance their learning and become stronger advocates for restorative justice at the same time.
"Our purpose in the Certificate programs is to empower participants to cultivate moral, spiritual, and practical power for the work of climate justice in communities of faith and in collaboration with others," explains Center Director Cynthia Moe-Lobeda. "We do this through a cohort-based, online, global nine-month curriculum which explores green church theology, ethics, and spirituality; science related to climate justice; and social change practices that connect ecological well-being with racial, economic, and gender justice."
Participants in the program will meet in small cohorts twice a month via Zoom to discuss readings, encourage one another, and build knowledge while coming together as a learning community.
During the second semester, students implement Sacred Action Projects that further climate justice in their own communities.

"Participants come from all around the world," notes Cynthia, "so you would be learning from and with people primarily from Africa and Asia (for the Certificate in English) and from Latin America (for the Certificate in Spanish)."
The Center also offers a Certificate in Community Organizing for Climate Justice, which focuses on the arts of community organizing as applied to climate matters.
For more information, we encourage you to visit the Center for Climate Justice and Faith website and choose the programs option. Or, you can contact the Director directly at [email protected].
We hope some of you in our community jump at this opportunity to expand your understanding and build out your continuing education at the same time!
